KAISO HOUSE – NEW SAVANNAH VENUE
KAISO HOUSE – NEW SAVANNAH VENUE
The KAISO HOUSE Calypso Tent re opened its doors at a new location – the Frederick Street entrance to the Queen’s Park Savannah across the road from the National Academy for the Performing Arts {NAPA}.
The Tent kick started the Carnival 2011 season with a campaign over six nights at the Queen’s Hall, St. Ann’s. “Six majestic nights of Calypso” as the series was called provided calypso lovers with a different atmosphere to the traditional Calypso tent.
The new venue was constructed by the National Carnival Commission {NCC} under the direction of the Minister of Arts and Multiculturalism.
Kaiso House made a relatively smooth transition from the upscale Queen’s Hall to the rootical arena of the Savannah Village on Wednesday night.  By Thursday night, the singers faced the judges in their quest to secure a place in the National Monarch semifinal.
A packed audience was enough to make the statement – that people endorsed the move to the new venue and that the audience for the Calypso tent was prepared to stand up and be counted in this Carnival 2011 season.
Kaiso House has long been regarded as the flagship tent of the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians’ Organisation {TUCO} fleet and over the years it has lived up to its reputation. Boasting the tag line – Where Royalty is Habit, this year’s cast saw the return of the legendary Winston Bailey the Shadow to the House. Singing Sandra, Brother Valentino, Mudada, Explainer, Brother Resistance and Twiggy combine to provide the frontline experience of the show.
And yet the Kaiso House is never short of young talent – Karene Asche, Brian London, Chucky and Nefta Kojo (National Queen finalist 2010) all underline the fact that as an institution in the Carnival.
The season already screams success for the cast in some of the major competitions – Sister Ava in the Calypso Queen Final while Dee Diamond and Mr. Chucky do battle in the Young King Final.
Kaiso House continues nightly at the Savannah.
